Jah Freedom Recording, conceived in the summer of 1996, is the living dream of Steve Weinstein. After traveling to Jamaica many times, and falling in love with Jamaican culture, the island, and Reggae Music, Steve decided to somehow get involved in the reggae music business. His close friend Paul 'Sly' Francis suggested that without musical skills, the best way to get involved was to build a Dubplate Studio. Steve took the challenge and with lots of determination, limited resources, and some connections in Philadelphia's Jamaican Reggae community, began Jah Freedom Recording.

The concept was always to build the recording studio, gain experience and connections in the business and then to carry the equipment and the company to Jamaica.

Jah Freedom was built around a 65 year old Presto Record Cutting Lathe. Piece by piece, dubplate by dubplate, artiste by artiste, and sound by sound, Jah Freedom Recording Company, Limited has come to be.

In the summer of 1999 Steve began putting together a music production facility. With the remnants of Travelers Studio in Philadelphia, Jah Freedom’s Production Recording Studio was built. Initially, the biggest challenge was finding talented reggae artistes, musicians, and engineers in the Philly area. The dream has always been to move to Jamaica and make Jah Freedom Western Jamaica's premier recording facility. The dream has become a reality.

Jah Freedom moved to Negril in the first quarter of 2003. We offer Jamaica's top reggae musicians, Jamaica's most beautiful scenery, and Jamaica's best location for Reggae vibes: Negril's West End. Jah Freedom has become a place where Reggae Music's veterans, upcoming local and international talent, and Reggae, Jazz, Rock, and R & B artistes come to Negril to enjoy Jamaica, and record their music.

Jah Freedom Recording Company, Limited has recently purchased a parcel of land on Westland Mountain in Negril and is building a 5300 square foot Recording Facility and Guest House resort. The new location, 2 minutes from the center of Negril, will give visitors, artistes, musicians, and clients a much more spiritual and quiet inspirational location to record and enjoy the scenery and natural beauty of Negril.
